Come and visit the MATER Ecoactive Museum Ship in Pasaia and discover a fascinating town full of maritime charm. A municipality made up of four districts—Pasai Donibane (San Juan), Pasai San Pedro, Pasai Antxo, and Trintxerpe—that has always been historically linked to the sea.

MATER is moored at the San Pedro fishing dock, just a few meters from the pier where the motorboat crosses between the historic centres of San Pedro and San Juan. From here, we offer you a wide variety of activities to discover all the hidden treasures tucked away in its corners.

Pasaia is an exceptional place with areas of great natural interest, such as the coastal mountains of Jaizkibel and Ulia. Its unique geomorphology, flora and fauna, and well-preserved marine ecosystems make this coastline a magical spot, declared a Special Area of Conservation within the Natura 2000 Network. Since its beginnings, MATER has been a showcase for different organisations that live and work by the rhythm of the sea in Pasaia. How to get to Pasaia?

Located near Donostia, the capital of Gipuzkoa, Pasaia is easy to reach via the N1 national road or the AP-8 motorway (Bilbao–Behobia).

  • From Donostia–San Sebastián: approx. 10 minutes
  • From Bilbao: approx. 60 minutes
  • From Vitoria–Gasteiz: approx. 60 minutes

We recommend coming by public transport and enjoying a healthy walk to our facilities:
